Milla Jovovich slays her last zombies in Resident Evil: The Final Chapter trailer
With the Resident Evil films, director Paul W. S. Anderson may have created the first sleeper-hit franchise. Sleek costuming, stylized low-budget sets, competent action sequences, and serviceable CGI all contributed to a mid-budget zombie-annihilation machine that quietly generated nearly a billion dollars in total worldwide gross box office sales.
With Milla Jovovich as the face of the Resident Evil series, it’s fitting that Resident Evil: The Final Chapter focuses on her homecoming to Raccoon City. The trailer kicks off with some iconic (if you’re a die-hard RE fan) footage of Jovovich’s Alice from previous films. Narrated by Iain Glenn (Game of Thrones’ Ser Jorah Mormont), Alice’s nemesis solemnly announces their adversarial relationship is finally coming to a close. He foolishly gloats over Alice, who isn’t about to go out like some punk.
And sure enough, whether she’s zip-lining over zombie hordes, attacking Mad Max-style battle trucks, outrunning dragons, or busting shotgun shells into domes, Alice appears to take a blowtorch to the entire Umbrella Corporation. Blink and you miss Ali Larter’s Claire Redfield, who returns to provide backup (as if Alice needs help). At the end of the trailer, Alice agrees that this is the end of her story—except the story just happens to be the Book of Zombie Revelations. The stylized zombie apocalypse finally ends when Resident Evil: The Final Chapter opens in theaters January 27, 2017.
