Variety is reporting that Mom star Allison Janney has signed on to play another mom in I, Tonya, the Tonya Harding biopic that Margot Robbie has been attached to since early this year. The story describes the mom—LaVona Harding—as “eccentric” and “tough,” adding that an ESPN 30 For 30 installment showed her being “particularly hard” on her daughter during competitions. LaVona Harding didn’t play a role in the infamous “whack Nancy Kerrigan in the knee scheme” (as far as we know), but maybe the movie will decide to tweak history a little and turn the attack into an Ocean’s 11-style ensemble crime.
Just yesterday, we reported that Sebastian Stan had signed on to play Jeff Gillooly, Harding’s estranged husband, with Robbie officially playing Harding herself. I, Tonya will be directed by Craig Gillespie.
