Monsters X to assemble a squad of monsters who would then do monster things, in a squad

Even as Showtime pulls together its own League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen-style monster ensemble piece, a big-screen spin on a very similar same premise is currently in the works from Ahmet Zappa. Easily the most commercial thing Frank Zappa ever produced, Ahmet has become a go-to guy for franchising over the years, having worked on a Fraggle Rock movie, a film based on Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room, and the Oliver Twist buddy-cop reimagining Dodge & Twist. His latest idea based on slightly reshaping the ideas of others in the most cynically obvious ways possible is what The Hollywood Reporter describes as “The Avengers of horror,” with Dracula, Frankenstein’s monster, Mr. Hyde, and other creatures yet to be named all joining forces to “defend humanity against an even greater threat to them all,” such as the death of imagination. (Just kidding: It’s probably aliens.)

Anyway, some may argue that The Monster Squad already explored this territory—and established that monsters make shitty teammates—but then, that would be assuming originality is still considered a factor in a project’s development, when there are currently at least 12 other Frankenstein things to the contrary.
