Morrissey and his label part ways: Drop me if you think you’ve heard this one before

In a short statement on True To You, Morrissey says that “Capitol Records/Harvest have ended their relationship with Morrissey, as directed by label boss Steve Barnett.” The cantankerous singer gives no further details, though it’s easy to speculate that other recent posts on the site raised ire at his new-ish label, including last week’s proclamation that a music video for the title track of his new album “ought to have been harvested by the record label.” (Harvested? Get it?) When he’s not signed to a label, Morrissey seems hell-bent on finding one. When he lands on a big one, they don’t do enough. Oh, Morrissey, when will your suffering end? At least people bought your book! Morrissey does point out that World Peace Is None Of Your Business had a decent first week, landing at #14 on the Billboard chart. But for a villain like Steve Barnett, who’s helped make late-career resurgences for AC/DC and Bob Dylan happen, perhaps that just wasn’t enough. (Plus, those guys don’t constantly post about how unhappy they are with their labels.)
