Morrissey: The Musical?
According to an interview with New York Metro (which was picked up by NME), there's a new musical in the works based on the songs of Morrissey. While the past success of musicals based on pop stars like Queen, ABBA, Billy Joel, and even Madness probably means we can expect to see Broadway stagings of just about every popular rock act eventually, this proposed Morrissey musical is particularly unusual considering who's behind it: Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant, the former State and current Reno 911 members who co-wrote Night At The Museum and Balls Of Fury. Lennon reportedly said, "I have an outline in my head, like Mamma Mia– type musical but with the music of Morrissey, called I've Changed My Plea To Guilty. It's for a very diehard set of fans." Well, OK. As long as Twyla Tharp doesn't get involved…the last thing this needs is a bunch of vicars in tutus bouncing on trampolines.
