Mortal Kombat to return as a live-action web series

Warner Bros. is getting the Mortal Kombat gang back together: Scorpion, Johnny Cage, Sub Zero, and Liu Kang et al. will feature in a 10-episode live-action digital series that will explore the histories of those characters as well as new characters featured in the upcoming video game. The new anthology of shorts (which begins shooting this February in Vancouver) is being headed up by Kevin Tancharoen (Fame), who made that popular fan short Mortal Kombat: Rebirth to prove to Warner executives that he could helm a franchise reboot, something that obviously paid off—though not, as of yet, with that big-screen R-rated reboot that’s been long rumored. Casting details are set to unspool over the next few weeks, but Bloody Disgusting reports that Michael Jai White will reprise his Rebirth role as Major Jackson 'Jax' Briggs. Expect both the series and the new game to drop in the spring.
