We’re just a couple of months out from the return of Damian Lewis and Paul Giamatti’s Showtime growl-fest Billions (once described by our own Joshua Alston as “the C-plus student of premium cable dramas”). Last year’s finale saw asshole investigator Chuck Rhoades (Giamatti) relentlessly investigate asshole rich guy Bobby Axelrod (Lewis), in the process imperiling his career, his marriage, and whichever crew member is responsible for sponging up the gallons of Giamatti rage-spittle that presumably cover every inch of the show’s high-class sets.
It looks like Billions’ second season will flip that dynamic, though, with a new teaser hinting that “Axe” will be launching an investigation of his own via a government proxy, attacking Rhoades for professional misconduct. There’s also plenty of discussion of Chuck’s ex-wife Wendy (Maggie Siff, one of the series’ highlights), still trying to maneuver out from being the bucket in the two men’s ongoing pissing contest, despite the fact that she kicked them both to the curb last year.
Billions returns to Showtime on February 19 at 10 p.m.
