Neon signs are always attention-grabbers. They’re practically mandatory window ornaments for sports bars, nail salons, and takeout places. Neon has even made waves in the art world, with installations by conceptual artists like Joseph Kosuth and Lori Hersberger. And don’t forget: John Mayer used to know a girl “always buzzing just like neon, neon.” Still, when it comes to film, it’s rarely the go-to aesthetic choice, unless it’s a Tron sequel or blatant billboard for a soft drink in Blade Runner. So it’s interesting to see how memorable movie quotes would look if they got the neon treatment.
Along with PopCorn Garage’s recently launched online rendition of I Spy, which encourages players to find over 60 movie references, the company started a Tumblr page with a slew of great movie gifs. Many well-known films made the cut, including Star Wars, The Sixth Sense, and Fight Club. (Technically, a sign can’t talk so it doesn’t exactly break Tyler’s rules, right?) And some of the quotes have even been translated into Spanish, which is tremendously convenient for anyone wanting to learn how to say “yippee-ki-yay, motherfucker” in more than one language.
