MPAA bans Zero Theorem poster thanks to Christoph Waltz’s bare butt
Well, it’s over, ladies. It’s time to pack up the ol’ stitch ’n’ bitch and go home, because the playing field has been leveled by Christoph Waltz’s butt. Specifically, Waltz bared his ass for the teaser poster for Terry Gilliam’s upcoming Zero Theorem; the MPAA, upon viewing the image, promptly clutched their collective pearls and banned it. (The MPAA has been known to do this occasionally, most recently banning Eva Green’s boob outline on the Sin City: A Dame To Kill For teaser poster.) Being a prankster type, Gilliam reposted the image on his Facebook page anyway with this message:
“Zero Theorem off to a good start in the US thanks to the Motion Picture Association of America’s censors. They have banned our teaser poster because of a bare butt. Your thoughts, please.”
Because censorship usually backfires, the poster has since been shared thousands of times on social media, generating far more publicity for the film than if the MPAA had approved it without incident. And here it is again below, where you can jeer and catcall one of the finest actors of his generation.
