Mr. Robot’s Rami Malek might play Freddie Mercury for Bryan Singer
Deadline reports that Mr. Robot star Rami Malek has been cast as Freddie Mercury in an upcoming Queen movie, potentially directed by Bryan Singer. Singer is in talks to helm Bohemian Rhapsody, now in development at 20th Century Fox. The film was originally over at Sony, where Sascha Baron Cohen was attached to play Mercury; Cohen eventually abandoned the project after arguing with producers—including Queen’s Brian May—about how much of a gritty tell-all the movie should be.
Malek—who’s appeared in films like Larry Crowne and Night At The Museum: Secret Of The Tomb—recently won his first Emmy for his work on Mr. Robot. Singer, meanwhile, has been busy at the head of Fox’s X-Men franchise; his recent X-Men: Apocalypse was one of the studio’s biggest summer hits.
