MSNBC indefinitely suspends Keith Olbermann for donating to Democratic campaigns

MSNBC has just suspended Keith Olbermann without pay over his admitted contributions to three Democratic campaigns, an ethical breach that also suggests Olbermann may, in fact, be somewhat liberal. This morning, Olbermann acknowledged in a statement that he had privately donated $2,400 apiece to Kentucky Senate candidate Jack Conway and Arizona Reps. Raul Grijalva and Gabrielle Giffords during the recent midterm elections. Unfortunately for Olbermann, this was a violation of NBC News regulations, which prohibits employees from contributing to or working on political campaigns unless they receive special permission from the president of the news division—which, you know, would never happen. Politico first broke the news of Olbermann’s donations, leading to his indefinite suspension. So remember: If you’re going to be a news organization that gives money to politicians, make sure you’re doing it under the aegis of your big, multibillion-dollar company and that you don’t star in your own TV show. Anyway, hopefully Olbermann’s fans and detractors can recover from learning that he may be somewhat politically biased.
