MTV forgot to give Beavis And Butt-Head the week off, apparently

Here’s what’s up in the world of TV for Thursday, Dec. 29. All times are Eastern.

TOP PICK
Beavis And Butt-Head (MTV, 10 p.m.): Here it is! One of only two shows we regularly cover to air a new episode this week! Treasure it! Enjoy your moments with Beavis and Butt-Head. For next week, they’ll be swept aside by the returning tide of all of your other favorite shows. “Didn’t I like those two at one time?” you will ask yourself, perhaps reminding yourself that, yes, yes you did, but now, you have to watch a new Person Of Interest. Kenny Herzog is out doing other stuff, so Simon Abrams will fill in.

WHAT ELSE IS ON?
Happy New Year, Charlie Brown (ABC, 8 p.m.): For whatever reason, Charlie Brown’s teacher assigns him, an 8-year-old or so, to read War And Peace over the Christmas break. He does a really poor job of this. Also, romance!

Travel Channel Uncut (Travel, 8 p.m.): Have you ever watched a Travel Channel program and said to yourself, “Gosh, I’ll bet there are some crazy bloopers tied to this one!”? Well, if you’re that person—and who isn’t—here’s the show for you.

I (Almost) Got Away With It (Investigation Discovery, 9 p.m.): The episode description for this one says, simply, “Got to Pretend I’m a Priest,” which just makes us ask all sorts of questions. God, we’re going to have to watch this one, huh?

Man, Woman, Wild (Discovery, 9 p.m.): It’s time for our intrepid hosts to wander through Alaskan bear country, because they don’t really have a whole lot else going on, and they want to impress us with their bear-charming abilities.

Hook, Line, And Sisters (TLC, 10 p.m.): We made Ryan McGee review the first episode of this new show about sisters in Alaska who are also fishers—and isn’t that just crazy—because we secretly hate him. We’re sure you’ll enjoy it, too.

Good Vibes (MTV, 10:30 p.m.): We haven’t really found this one to develop into any sort of must-see, but if there’s a week when it might be worth checking back in, it’s this one. After all, what else are we going to watch? The local news? Pshaw!

Die Hard (G4, 6:30 p.m.): G4’s a little late airing this one, since we would have liked to check it out on Christmas Eve, but it’s not the holidays if Bruce Willis isn’t making the city of Los Angeles safe again, one skyscraper at a time.

The Great Ziegfeld (TCM, 8 p.m.): We won’t lie. This early Best Picture winner is often pretty terrible, and at 195 minutes long, there’s pretty much no way to describe it as pithy. But it’s kind of fun to watch as a historical artifact, we guess.

NBA Basketball: Mavericks at Thunder (TNT, 8 p.m.): It’s a rematch of last season’s Western Conference finals, and it’s your first of many reminders this year that Oklahoma City has a basketball team, and Seattle no longer does.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT
Brad Meltzer’s Decoded (Wednesday): Simon Abrams and Brad Meltzer examine the Vatican to see what secrets it holds, and Simon decides he’d really rather be doing anything else. Meltzer disagrees. The two come to blows. Naturally.
