MTV going forward with Scream TV series, other shows about lazy formulas

Intrigued by the appropriately meta twist of taking a series that comments on the exponential suckiness of franchising, and making it a weekly show that plays next to Teen Mom, MTV has ordered a pilot for that previously announced TV version of Scream. Adding even more layers of irony, the green light comes with no writers, producers, cast, or even a “specific concept” attached, meaning the only thing being approved here is the brand name and the vague promise that Wes Craven could direct the first episode—just the sort of lazy, formulaic thinking the original once so deftly parodied. The network also announced new shows Guy Court (a mock trial show in which bros will be judged according to “Guy Code”), The Hook-Up (a dating show in which people pick partners “based on their social media history”), a show about the kids of sperm donors, one about travel nursing (“the ultimate ‘work-hard/play-hard’ lifestyle,” according to a network that’s obviously not familiar with blogging), and also a third season of Snooki & JWOWW, speaking of lazy, formulaic things.
