MTV just gives up on finding a host for the Video Music Awards
This weekend’s MTV Video Music Awards will feature performances by the likes of Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, Adele, and Lil Wayne—along with numerous awards recognizing outstanding achievement in a field that the organization bestowing them no longer recognizes—but the one thing it won’t have is a host. After spending weeks going “down to the wire” looking for the perfect comedian to piss off Twitter with mild jokes about Justin Bieber, MTV has opted to have no one at all delivering any sort of awkward running monologue to screeching teenagers, admitting its failure to find the “right person” for the gig the way it insisted it did with Russell Brand and Chelsea Handler. Instead, the show is hoping to rely on “moments,” such as whatever Lady Gaga happens to wear that night. Seriously, that’s what they say they’re putting all of their faith in to create headlines: Lady Gaga wearing something wacky. So, you know, hopefully Lady Gaga will do that.
