MTV programming heads who gave you The Hills and Jersey Shore end their 20-year dig for the lowest common denominator

Tony DiSanto and Liz Gately—the programming executives who spent the last 20 years transforming MTV from a network dedicated to music and pop culture into an Animal Planet for teenage moms, bratty socialites, and New Jersey lechers—are leaving, their work done and the MTV brand (whatever that is) secure, and heading off to form a production company with ousted NBC chairman Ben Silverman. DiSanto and Gately are said to be sticking around through the end of the year to ensure that their recently acquired slate of scripted programming—like remakes of popular British shows Skins and The Inbetweeners, The Hard Times Of RJ Berger, and Teen Wolf—uphold the legacy of the people who brought you Laguna Beach, The Hills, and Total Request Live.
