MTV’s Scream gets two new showrunners

While enumerating the problems MTV’s Scream had in its freshman season, T.V. Club made some suggestions for a “complete overhaul” of the show, including but not limited to rerunning Human Giant in its place. Now it seems the network has taken our advice, aiming to start over with a new pair of showrunners. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jill Blotevogel and Jaime Paglia have been replaced by Michael Gans and Richard Register. (And somewhere, a finger on a monkey’s paw slowly curls.)

Sources tell THR that Dimension TV (the small-screen arm of the studio that produced the Scream movies) grew “unhappy with the creative direction of the revival.” Blotevogel, who will stay on as a consultant, pitched a possible anthology turn earlier this summer which could allow the series to effectively reboot itself. Gans and Register’s producing and writing credits include an animated show (SG) and the teen-gymnast dramedy Make It Or Break It, so we suppose the teen-target farce that is Scream should be in their wheelhouse.
