MTV has announced the nominees for its 2007 Video Music Awards. Ready for some mind-blowing surprises? Justin Timberlake tops the list with 7 noms, with Kanye West pulling up close behind with 5 and umbrell-icious newcomer Rihanna clocking in with 4. As for Amy Winehouse, the boozy and apparently exhausted chanteuse racked up a respectable 3 nominations–although her ubiquitous hit "Rehab" was shut out of the "Monster Single Of The Year" category.
Anyone who claims that indie rock is the new mainstream needs to look at lists like these to remember what people outside of dorm rooms and snarky pop-culture websites are really listening to. It sure as shit ain't Arcade Fire.
