With reality programming overpowering scripted television in recent years, it’s a wonder how we are only just now hearing of a convention dedicated to the genre. Alas, MTV is putting together the first-ever reality show convention, dubbed RealityCon, in time for the summer of 2020. This will follow a soft launch this fall.

While MTV is hosting the event, the line-up will not exclusively feature MTV talent. So while you can expect cast members from Jersey Shore to rub tanned elbows with folks from The Hills, there will also be personalities from The Bachelor, Bravo’s Real Housewives series, Duck Dynasty, and RuPaul’s Drag Race, just to name a few. RealityCon will include your standard panels, interviews, and performances, but can we also look forward the same juicy twists that are the true crown jewels of any decent show? At the very least there should be a confessional booth where you can freely talk shit about the event with Nene Leakes and Vanessa “Vanjie” Mateo.

While the first ever reality program technically aired in the ‘70s with An American Family, MTV is widely credited for pioneering the genre in the early ‘90s with its destined juggernaut The Real World, . The channel now mainly consists of unscripted programming and exists as a blueprint for other dramatic slice-of-life series.

There are no further details available at the moment, but in the spirit of reality TV, you are free to wildly speculate.
