Multiple distributors pick up Tom Hanks’ A Hologram For The King

Tom Hanks’ latest film, the Dave Eggers adaptation A Hologram For The King, has been picked up for joint U.S. distribution by Lionsgate, Roadside Pictures, and Saban Films. The film, which reunites Hanks with Cloud Atlas co-director Tom Tykwer, sees the actor playing a desperate, washed-up businessman who is still somehow irresistibly charming, because he’s being played by Tom Hanks.

Adapted from Eggers’ 2012 novel, the movie was shot last year in Germany and Morocco, with a cast that includes Tom Skerritt and Homeland’s Sarita Choudhury. Hanks plays a man attempting to right the wrongs in his life by landing a massive IT contract with the Saudi Arabian king.

Because nothing generates buzz like a sweaty Tom Hanks and the ineffable musk of a wild Tom Skerritt, Hologram has done very well for itself at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. Besides the aforementioned deal for U.S. distribution, the film has also sold in several international markets, including to Icon in the U.K., and to Tykwer’s own X Filme in Germany.
