After more than a decade together, My Chemical Romance has called it quits. The alt-rock group announced its split late Friday night via a statement on its website reading,
“Being in this band for the past 12 years has been a true blessing. We've gotten to go places we never knew we would. We've been able to see and experience things we never imagined possible. We've shared the stage with people we admire, people we look up to, and best of all, our friends. And now, like all great things, it has come time for it to end. Thanks for all of your support, and for being part of the adventure."
That explanation, while seemingly heartfelt, wasn't really enough for MCR fanatics, who demanded more information and one last tour. Late night Sunday, frontman Gerard Way posted a 2,200 word essay on the group’s breakup on the band’s site saying that, while the group might be done, “it can never die,” and that the group’s thoughts, songs, and legacy would live on through its fanbase.
My Chemical Romance released four full-length records together, the last being 2010's Danger Days: The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys. Worldwide, the band has sold about 4.5 million records and 3.5 million singles.
