My Fellow Americans
The concept of the marginally enjoyable My Fellow Americans is intriguing: Two former presidents—one's a Democrat and one's a Republican!—are forced to go on the lam to avoid rogue government hit men, and to expose a scandal involving the current administration. The execution, however, is decidedly wobbly, with too many telegraphed, poorly paced jokes, too much Grumpy Old Men-style insult humor, and too many schmaltzy scenes like one in which an idealistic illegal immigrant gives James Garner a compass. (Hold on to that compass—it may come in handy later!) But Garner and Jack Lemmon have enough charisma, and there are enough solid laughs, to mostly overcome My Fellow Americans' embarrassing moments and improbable ending.
