My Morning Jacket and others record tribute album to the late Jason Molina

The world lost one hell of a songsmith when Jason Molina of Songs: Ohia and Magnolia Electric Co. died last year after a long battle with alcoholism. But he’s not been forgotten. A slew of artists, most notably My Morning Jacket, have recorded a double-length tribute to Molina’s heart-worn roots titled Farewell Transmission: The Music Of Jason Molina. Along with acts such as Murder By Death, Wooden Wand, and Freakwater’s Catherine Irwin, My Morning Jacket has contributed a cover of a Molina song, with a portion of the proceeds going to help musicians in need of health care, as well as those close to Molina who were most impacted by his loss. Below is a stream of MMJ’s eerie version of Songs: Ohia’s “Farewell Transmission.” The album comes out April 22 and is available now for preorder through iTunes and Amazon; you can learn more about the project’s charitable aspects by visiting MusiCares and Rock The Cause.
