Mysteries Of Laura becomes first NBC show to get a full season pickup

When Debra Messing’s schlocky “can women have it all?” dramedy, The Mysteries Of Laura, premiered, it seemed like the kind of show that would either face immediate cancellation or run for decades. The procedural cop series follows Laura Diamond (Messing), a homicide detective trying to raise twin boys while simultaneously working for her soon-to-be-ex-husband, Captain Jake Broderick (Josh Lucas). And while the show’s long-term fate is still unknown, Deadline reports that NBC has given The Mysteries Of Laura nine more episodes for Laura Diamond to figure out her work/life balance.

The Mysteries Of Laura thus becomes the first NBC fall show to get a full-season order. That’s probably because it’s the only one whose ratings have stayed relatively consistent since its premiere. The show recently drew a 1.3 in adults 18-49 and reached 8.3 million total viewers, and it’s currently ranked as the most-watched NBC program on Wednesday night. Meanwhile, A To Z, Bad Judge, Marry Me, and the sophomore series About A Boy are all struggling in the ratings, although NBC has yet to pull the plug on any of them. Currently, ABC’s Manhattan Love Story remains its first and only fall cancellation.
