Naomi Watts and Daniel Dae Kim join the Divergent sequels
Naomi Watts is an experienced actress who’s worked with acclaimed directors like David Lynch and David Cronenberg, been nominated for Academy Awards, and starred in Tank Girl. But in today’s Hollywood, you’re no one until you’ve been cast in a movie about Earth’s dystopian future, based on a novel for teenagers. For Watts, that time has finally arrived: She’s been gifted with a role in the three upcoming sequels to Divergent, Hollywood’s latest hit series about a strong-willed teenage girl struggling to survive in an oppressive society that has nothing to do with The Hunger Games. Watts will play Evelyn, leader of the Factionless, a rogue group whose members have been relegated to the margins of Divergent’s sharply divided futuristic civilization.
In addition to Watts, Lost alum Daniel Dae Kim has joined the next sequel, Insurgent, as Jack Kang, a representative of the Candor faction—just one of the many factions to which members of Evelyn’s Factionless faction do not belong. Watts and Kim are expected to spend a lot of time on set trying to remember all of the movie’s futuristic buzzwords before recalling how much they’re getting paid, collapsing into a fit of giggles, and joining fellow castmates Kate Winslet and Octavia Spencer to discuss how they’re going to spend all that sweet, sweet, young-adult fiction money.
