Naomi Watts to star in HBO's Game Of Thrones spin-off
Details are starting to come together for the untitled Game Of Thrones spin-off/prequel that HBO is set to launch just as the original series comes to an end, with Variety reporting that Naomi Watts has just signed on to star in the show’s pilot. We don’t have specifics, since all we really know about the project is that it takes place thousands of years before the main Game Of Thrones saga, but Variety says she’ll be playing “a charismatic socialite hiding a dark secret.”
Now’s your chance, lore nerds of Westeros: Grab your tomes and skim the wikis, then let us know who—in the entire history of George R.R. Martin’s fictional universe—can be described as a charismatic socialite hiding a dark secret. That’s assuming that this isn’t a totally new character, of course, which is entirely possible. While we don’t know much about the show, we do know that the pilot was written and created by Jane Goldman, who received very little assistance from George R.R. Martin (if any).
