Nashville's Deacon Claybourne has a dark improv past
Fans of ABC’s Nashville might know Charles Esten as the brooding, ex-pill-popping singer Deacon Claybourne. When he’s not caught between the love of Rayna James and Juliette Barnes, Claybourne does manly Tennessee stuff like playing at the Bluebird Cafe and fishing—and he’s definitely never really made much of a joke. Fortunately for all fun-lovers, though, Grantland writer Andy Greenwald stumbled upon a video of Esten’s past as “Chip,” a regular on Whose Line Is It Anyway? Greenwald tweeted it out this morning, saying “we knew Deacon's past was dark, but not *improv* dark.” Watch and be amazed.
