Nasim Pedrad to play a teenage boy for Fox

After surviving Mulaney, Nasim Pedrad has earned a chance to take on any role she wants. It’s appropriate, then, that her next big TV gig will be the kind of juicy part that any serious actor would kill for. According to The Wrap, Pedrad will be writing, executive producing, and—of course—starring in a new Fox comedy called Chad: An American Boy. She’ll be playing the eponymous Chad, a 14-year-old boy from a Middle Eastern family “who is tasked with being the man of the house—leaving him with all the responsibilities of being an adult without any of the perks.”

Pedrad says she’s “thrilled” to be getting a chance to showcase “a Middle Eastern family not working for or against Jack Bauer,” and she thanks Fox for understanding that “an awkward and misguided 14-year-old boy” is her “true essence.” How straight the show plays the fact that an adult woman is playing its lead boy, though, remains to be seen.
