Nathan Fillion is apparently an old Marvel hero in Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2
Despite being the internet’s top choice for every superhero role ever, Nathan Fillion has played surprisingly few superheroes. If some Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 set photos are to be believed, though, he might soon be making an appearance as Simon Williams, an actor and longtime member of the Avengers who is better known as the hero/reformed villain Wonder Man. However, before anyone gets too excited about Fillion punching bad guys alongside Star-Lord, Groot, and the other Guardians, there’s a very good chance that this is all just a big easter egg and won’t actually impact the movie’s plot at all.
The aforementioned photos—which were posted on ComicBook.com—are from a scene that’s set in some kind of small town on Earth. Apparently, this town has a movie theater promoting a “Simon Williams Film Festival,” with a handful of posters for Williams’ fictional in-universe movies on display. Some of these posters include clear shots of Fillion’s face, indicating that he’s the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s version of Simon Williams, but there’s really no evidence that Fillion himself will show up at all—let alone put on Wonder Man’s trademark W-emblazoned muscle shirt and get in on the action.
Still, even with that fun spoiled, the fictional movie posters are pretty funny for comic book and MCU fans. There’s one for a suspiciously Danny Boyle-esque Tony Stark biopic, one for a Conan-like movie based on Marvel viking dude Arkon, and a Toxic Avenger homage called Toxic Janitor 2. Is that stuff as cool as Nathan Fillion going on an adventure with the Guardians? Probably not, but it’s all we’ve got.
