Nathan Fillion keeps nerd hopes alive by naming superheroes he could play

Nathan Fillion has long been a hero to many, simply for being an incredibly charming guy and a solid actor who knows how to play to his geek fan base. Sure, the “hero” thing came about from his playing one on the short-lived show Firefly, but in the intervening years, there’s been many a push to get Fillion cast as a superhero—that is, more so than the superhero work he does in animated films. Fan-made trailers of Fillion as the Green Lantern aside, Fillion recently revealed which superhero he thinks would be a good fit for him:

I think I could take a pretty good crack at Booster Gold. That’s kind of my niche… show-offy, vain. I think I could handle that… not too bright.

For those of you who aren’t big Justice League fans, Booster Gold is a time traveler who started out staging publicity stunts to make himself look like a hero before eventually becoming one in reality. And yes, he’s a bit of a cocky twit at times, as Fillion describes, so it’s understandable that Fillion, who specialized in that niche, would find the superhero a match for his talents. But he also tossed out or on two other thoughts:

I think Ambush Bug. Remember that guy? Little bit off his rocker. You’d never see my face. But I think Greatest American Hero is due for a reboot.

Now, the former comment seems like him having a bit of a goof, as Ambush Bug is basically a joke of a character, a delusional guy with a stolen alien suit who can teleport at will, usually into a poorly thought-out situation. But The Greatest American Hero? It’s supposedly being rebooted as we speak, and we can’t think of anyone we’d rather see wearing that ridiculous red suit. And that’s how all of us nerds manage to sustain ourselves through another cycle of waiting for Nathan Fillion to finish up Castle and return into our loving embrace full time, where in our fantasies—both romantic and otherwise—he already resides.
