NBA star Baron Davis is the latest to have a sitcom based on his life
It’s been a good year so far for basketball stars making the natural career transition into producing situation comedies. LeBron James’ Survivor’s Remorse is only halfway through its first six-episode season, but Starz has already renewed it for a second. And now Fox has announced that it’s purchasing a single-camera comedy loosely based on the life of NBA veteran Baron Davis.
The script, written by The Cleveland Show producer Courtney Lilly, will focus on a young man from South Central Los Angeles who receives a basketball scholarship to a prestigious prep school. (Davis, who shares executive producer credits with Lilly, received a similar scholarship to attend Santa Monica’s Crossroads School For Arts & Sciences). The character will have to juggle the pressures from his old life and his new, upper-class one, as well as troubles caused by his friend DJ Jazzy Jeff constantly being hurled out of buildings.
