NBC decides to stay on The Blacklist for another season

There have been a lot of cancellations going around this week, with every major network cutting some underperforming TV shows loose to make room for the newer shows they’ll cancel next year, but while NBC did cancel Timeless and Emerald City recently, it’s also making sure to let some shows know that it wants them to stick around. In the last few days, it has renewed Blindspot and Taken, and now Deadline says that NBC has also picked up The Blacklist for a 22-episode fifth season.

Deadline says The Blacklist was a “runaway hit” when it premiered way back in 2013, but since moving to Thursdays a few seasons ago, the number of viewers has dipped. Still, the James Spader and Megan Boone-starring series gets some of the highest ratings out of any scripted show on NBC, with only Chicago Fire and This Is Us topping it. However, those ratings apparently don’t translate to much of anything for new spin-off series The Blacklist: Redemption, which Deadline thinks will be canceled.
