After it sent NBC spiraling into eighth place and midnight exclamations of “Beyond Scared Straight! We were beaten by Beyond Scared Straight!” to innocent couples who then scattered to better-lit corners of Rockefeller Plaza, the network has finally banished its John Grisham adaptation The Firm to the hinterlands of Saturday night, where it can finish out its run entertaining babysitters and asleep people who meant to go out that night but had too much pre-game Schnapps. The move comes after the drama hit a new series and possibly network low of a 0.8 rating in its time slot, which are the sort of numbers that could make a network nostalgic for The Paul Reiser Show and all the good times they had, baby. In its place, beginning February 11, NBC will air reruns of its relative-to-The–Firm smash hit Grimm, which will then be replaced on March 1 by the long-delayed sci-fi drama Awake, about a detective who finds himself caught living between two alternate realities. And no, speaking of timelines, all of this consideration about what NBC could put in The Firm’s 10 p.m. ET time slot on Thursdays did not lead to an announcement about Community. NBC will just have to get back to you on that one, as right now is not really a good time to talk.
