NBC gives full-season order to This Is Us

Buoyed by strong ratings on its ambitious series premiere, NBC has announced that it’s given a full-season pick-up order to its new family drama This Is Us. That makes the series—which stars a wide ensemble, including Mandy Moore and Milo Ventimiglia—the first new network show to get a full-season order this year. The NBC order bumps This Is Us from 13 episodes up to 18.

The series was created by Dan Fogelman, whose past credits include Cars, Crazy Stupid Love, and ABC’s Galavant. This Is Us pulled in strong (and possibly prurient) interest from fans right out of the gate, with its thoroughly assured, record-breaking first trailer back in May. But last week’s twisty, surprising pilot showed that the series—which tackles issues like eating disorders, parenthood, adoption, and the general unhappiness and dissatisfaction that comes with being an adult—almost certainly has more on its mind than just Ventimiglia’s butt.
