NBC grabs new J.J. Abrams show, Undercovers, hopes to somehow make spies interesting

NBC has just announced its first new series pickup for the fall: J.J. Abrams’ Undercovers, about married ex-CIA agents who get pulled back into the spy game, most likely with exciting and sexy complications. Abrams, of course, is no stranger to the spy game, having made his mark with Alias and that weird season of Felicity where she was implanted as a mole in the Lebanese mafia. This latest show is said to be “rich in character and brimming with romance and action”—said romance and action to take place between power couple Boris Kodjoe (of Showtime’s Soul Food) and Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Doctor Who). Expect to hear a lot more about it in the coming months.
