NBC grants Trial & Error a stay of execution

Variety reports that NBC has granted a stay of execution to Trial & Error, its first-season legal sitcom about an accused murderer (the always-welcome John Lithgow) and the defense attorney (Nicholas D’Agosto) trying to keep him out of jail. The show has now been renewed for a second season, with the network pretty much waiting down to the wire to give series fans the news.

Trial & Error scored lower ratings than some of NBC’s other returning comedies, including Superstore and The Good Place. But it’s reportedly a favorite of NBC‘s Bob Greenblatt, not to mention critics, who’ve praised it for blending a Parks & Rec “oddball small town” vibe with a tale of surprisingly funny small-town death.
