NBC is developing a magical martial arts drama
NBC apparently no longer peacocks comedy, and that means it needs to find a hot new genre to take comedy’s place. Sure, the network has plenty of drama shows, but those don’t take it far enough. It needs something that’s realistic and down-to-earth, but also completely off the wall and swarming with magic karate fighters. Luckily, The Hollywood Reporter says NBC has just ordered a new pilot that sounds just like that.
The pilot—which is titled Warrior—comes from Crossbones’ David DiGilio, and its official description explains it way better than we could: “In a grounded, contemporary multicultural and sometimes magical milieu, a damaged heroine works undercover with physical and spiritual guidance from a mysterious martial arts master to bring down an international crime lord.” In other words, it’s The Legend Of Korra, but it’s from the network that brought you the motorcycle doctor show and the monkey doctor show. Ladies and gentlemen, NBC is back!
As we’ve previously reported, AMC is working on a martial arts series of its own that is loosely based on Journey To The West, which proves that magical karate fighting is going to be the hot new genre pretty soon. Comedy was around for a few thousand years anyway, it’s about time something else came in to take its place.
