NBC just heard this great idea for a show about musicians in New Orleans

HBO may be wrapping up Treme soon, but that doesn't mean there isn't still room on television to explore New Orleans' rich musical world while also offering up social commentary—but, you know, with younger, sexier people and less depressing stuff, so that audiences might actually watch. Thus, NBC is developing The Swamp, a comedy with frequent musical interludes about a college scramble band that scurries to the beat of its own funky drummer, and all the hijinks with occasional poignancy that take place in their wild off-campus house named in the title. The show will also revolve around the band's "unlikeliest of mentors"—which, we have no idea what that means in this context. A robot who can't compute the students' refusal to stay within formation? A vengeful pagan god who detests New Orleans' brass band music and punishes it with hurricanes? A white guy? There are many possibilities, we suppose.
