NBC orders a drama about a Texas megachurch
Liz Heldens, who's created TV shows including Camp, Mercy, and Deception, has a new show lined up for NBC, a family drama centered around a Texas megachurch. Not yet ready to work her way up to two-word titles, the new show is called Salvation. It will delve into "faith, family and corruption," revolving around a lead character whose husband dies under mysterious circumstances.
The show is the fourteenth pilot ordered by NBC this season, which is enough to replace 2/3 of the network's current primetime offerings. Which, if you're NBC, probably isn't a terrible idea. The pilots are split evenly between comedy and drama, and sadly, none of those dramas are Megachurch, an action show about a Presbyterian chapel that transforms into a robot who uses shoulder-mounted rocket launchers to do God's work. Call us, NBC. If you can squeeze in one more pilot, we've got a script for Megachurch all ready to go.
