NBC orders a pilot from the creator of Happy Endings
Adam Pally, Damon Wayans Jr., Eliza Coupe, and Casey Wilson have all moved on from Happy Endings to a host of new projects (or in Wayans’ case, back to New Girl). And now Happy Endings creator David Caspe has a new pilot deal at NBC. Variety reports that Caspe is developing Marry Me, a comedy about “a longtime couple that gets engaged but quickly realized that engagement is harder than it looks.” That’s not the most unique premise; in fact, the cockroach-like CBS sitcom Rules Of Engagement began with a similar scenario. But Happy Endings banked on the strength of its ensemble cast to elevate a tried-and-true (if a bit tired) premise, and it ended up lasting three seasons while slowly garnering critical praise. So obviously, the true test for Marry Me will be getting the right group of actors. We hear Elisha Cuthbert and Zachary Knighton are still available.
