NBC picks up a fifth season of Superstore
Though it doesn’t get the press of its timeslot rival Big Bang Theory, Superstore has quietly been trucking along as one of the biggest hits on NBC—coming behind only Brooklyn Nine-Nine in terms of digital viewership across NBC’s whole lineup. Now, as reported by Deadline, the network has wisely chosen to renew Superstore for a fifth season. In a statement, NBC’s co-presidents of scripted programming noted that the show “not only makes us laugh but speaks to the larger issues of the day.” For those who have missed Superstore, possibly because you were watching Big Bang Theory or Grey’s Anatomy, the series stars America Ferrera and Ben Feldman, and centers on the employees at a wacky/heartwarming/enlightening retail outlet that is particularly big and well-stocked (a “superstore,” if you will).
The second half of Superstore’s fourth season premieres on NBC this Thursday.
