NBC picks up FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS for a full season

In a sign that NBC's belt-tightening won't sound the death knell for all quality programming, the network has picked up the Peter Berg-produced series Friday Night Lights for a full season. The Texas-set high school football drama inspired by Buzz Bissinger's non-fiction book and subsequent film has struggled in the ratings in its Tuesday night slot against Dancing With The Stars, NCIS, Gilmore Girls and Standoff. But it had a strong showing during a one-week tryout in the slot normally held by the also-picked-up Studio 60 On The Sunset Strip, suggesting that there might be room for a football-themed series in this football-crazy nation after all.
