NBC picks up new shows from Tina Fey and Marlon Wayans

Last week got pretty intense with the major networks all dropping old shows and picking up new ones, but it looks like a couple of series orders from NBC got left behind in the fast-food bag of TV news when everyone was grabbing their Blacklist spinoffs and time travel shows. According to Variety, in addition to all of the stuff it already picked up, NBC has also given series orders to Great News and Marlon, a pair of new comedy shows from big-name executive producers

Great News comes from 30 Rock and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’s Tina Fey and Robert Carlock, and it stars Briga Heelan (Ground Floor, Love) as “an up-and-coming news producer” whose “overbearing mother” gets a job as an intern at the TV station where she works. So it’s like Anne Hathaway’s The Intern crossed with Mom and The Newsroom, at least in the sense that it includes a mom and a newsroom.

The other show, Marlon, naturally comes from Marlon Wayans, and it stars him as “a loving but immature father” who is “committed to co-parenting his two kids with his ex-wife.” It’s said to be “inspired” by the real Marlon’s life, but hopefully they leave out the parts of his life where he made Littleman and Dungeons & Dragons.
