NBC brought its total new season pickups to five late Monday evening, with four of those series being comedies. Pilot season observers have felt most networks would stock up on comedy, but the amount of comedies NBC is picking up is unexpected (particularly if the network picks up a handful more, as it is expected to).
Joining Save Me and Go On are 1600 Penn and Animal Practice. The former is about the president (played by Bill Pullman, of course) and his unruly family, which includes Jenna Elfman as the first lady and Broadway star Josh Gad as his ne'er-do-well oldest son. The series was created by Gad with former Obama speechwriter Jon Lovett and director Jason Winer. It had been expected to get a pickup for several weeks now. Less is known about Practice, though it stars Justin Kirk and Tyler Labine. NBC says it's about a House-like veterinarian who clashes with the pet owners who bring their pets to him.
