NBC renews Chicago shows, turns a blind eye to Justice
It may not want to give Timeless the time of day anymore, but NBC still very much wants to be in the Dick Wolf and Chicago business. The network’s just renewed Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D., and Chicago Med, though the jury’s still out on Chicago Justice. The renewal news comes as no real surprise, since the first three shows are all established NBC dramas that play well together and with others in crossover events. Chicago Fire is the network’s second highest-rated drama, trailing behind ratings gobbler This Is Us.
But according to Deadline, the future of Med and/or Justice looked far less certain earlier in the month. In the end, the network moved forward with Med. In its first season, Chicago Justice has failed to really grab viewers, which could be chalked up to its muddled identity—the series hasn’t made up its mind whether it’s a Law & Order spin-off or a new member of the Chicago outfit. Speaking of L&O, there’s still no word on the future of SVU, which is currently in its 18th season.
