NBC renews Dick Wolf, Chicago, hats, and centuries-old fairytales
Coming off of record-high ratings for Super Bowl XLIX, NBC is working toward securing a permanent TV home for men in uniforms, extreme physical violence orchestrated by an ethically compromised maestro with powerful friends, and terrifying-yet-entertaining human/animal hybrids. Unlike the Super Bowl, this plan includes people from Chicago rooting for their home team: TV Line reports that NBC has handed down early renewal notices to The Blacklist, Law & Order: SVU, Chicago Fire, Chicago PD, and Grimm.
For those keeping track at home, that’s three renewals for series produced by Law & Order creator Dick Wolf, whose primetime realm could expand to four series if the planned Chicago Fire/Chicago PD spin-off Chicago Med receives the greenlight. And if NBC ever gets tired football, lists, chairs, and monsters, it can just hand Wolf the keys to the kingdom, and he can fill the schedule with the Synecdoche, New York-style TV facsimile of Chicago he’s clearly plotting. If that’s the case, The A.V. Club humbly requests that Wolf Films get to work on Chicago Streets & Sanitation, because we’d love to see snow removal in Chicago that takes place at a regular time and in a manner that wraps up in under an hour.
