NBC’s got a new show from the author of True Blood
NBC is adapting a new book series from True Blood author Charlaine Harris, traveling far outside her blood-soaked HBO wheelhouse to focus on a small Southern town populated by sexy supernatural creatures. (Fans worried that Harris is repeating herself should rest assured that these sex monsters live in Texas, not Louisiana.) Harris’ Midnight, Texas series currently spans two books with a third on the way next year, and will serve as the basis for a new show the author is executive producing alongside Lost’s Monica Owusu-Breen.
Press for the series describes the eponymous ghost town like this: “Stop at the one traffic light in town and everything looks normal; stay a while and learn the truth.” (The truth is that you visited a town called Midnight, and now you are probably going to have sex with a ghost.) Sadly, NBC will probably have to tone down some of the were-panther-loving action that fans of Harris’ work have come to expect from True Blood, but we’re sure there’s some primetime-friendly compromise the network can find to give people the pan-fried vampire erotica they so desperately crave.
