NBC’s Grimm will end after its upcoming sixth season

Things have become pretty grim for Grimm, as Variety is reporting that NBC has canceled the surprisingly long-running monster show. Grimm’s upcoming sixth season—which will consist of 13 episodes and begin on January 6—will now be its last, with NBC officially promoting it as “the final season.” The series stars David Giuntoli as Nick Burkhard, a guy from Oregon who protects Portland from all sorts of spooky creatures in his spare time. These final episodes will reportedly see him facing off against Sasha Roiz’s Captain Renard, who now seems to be on the side of the beasties as the city’s new mayor elect.

As Variety explains, Grimm has been a solid performer for NBC over the years, mostly due to its ability to get people to watch TV on a Friday night. The network tried shuffling it to other days a few times, but it always came back to Fridays, which is really where an NBC show about a homicide detective who hunts fairy-tale creatures belongs.
