NBC setting sail with cruise ship comedy

NBC, the first-place network where the comedy series goes to die, will embark on a new cruise-ship themed comedy from the veteran showrunning team behind Home Improvement. The series, christened Port Of Miami, (because Floating Norovirus Petri Dish probably wouldn‘t move the 18-49 demo) has received a script commitment from the network and will center on a woman-chasing white bartender on a cruise ship staffed with a host of international employees, all of whom are stunned by his complacency and lack of drive.

The show is helmed the team of Matt Williams and David McFadzean, whose credits include writing on Roseanne, producing and writing the Emmy-winning Home Improvement, and most recently, creating and writing the recently canceled George Lopez vehicle Saint George. No casting information has been given, but given the description of the show as “Cheers on a cruise ship,” casting Ted Danson or Ted Lange as the father of the skirt-chasing bartender seems like a pretty solid plan.
