Aside from This Is Us, the show NBC was most excited to promo at its upfront presentation in New York City this morning was the return of Will & Grace. Rather than giving us an actual trailer, though, the audience was treated to a promo video in which Will (and/or Eric McCormack, it’s hard to tell whether everyone is playing their characters or being themselves) is excited for the revival, while Grace/Debra Messing is more resistant. Eventually, they return to their old set to find that Karen (Megan Mullally) and Jack (Sean Hayes) have never left that Upper West Side apartment, prompting Grace/Debra to break out into a Will & Grace-themed rendition of “As If We Never Said Goodbye” from the musical version of Sunset Boulevard. “I don’t know why I’m frightened, I know my way around here,” she sings. “The brooding guy, the drunk who’s bi, the tightly wound queer.” Soon enough, everyone joins in.
In the online version, the foursome breaks the fourth wall to walk toward the camera at the end; meanwhile, at the upfront, they rose up out of the Radio City Music Hall stage, a full orchestra behind them. Will & Grace will premiere this fall as part of NBC’s attempt to remake “Must See TV“ on Thursdays.
