NBC to air that Live From New York! documentary

As we reported last spring, one of the many, many nostalgia-focused properties to emerge from Saturday Night Live’s 40th anniversary was a documentary from director Bao Nguyen called Live From New York! And now, those didn’t manage to catch the film in “select theaters” are in luck: According to Splitsider, NBC is going to air Live From New York! ahead of its 41st season premiere on October 3 at 8 p.m. ET.

The documentary features archival footage and interviews with SNL cast members and guests including Dana Carvey, Will Ferrell, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, John Goodman, and Alec Baldwin. It premiered at New York’s Tribeca Film Festival last April before opening in a slightly wider release in June. Our own Jesse Hassenger gave it a B- and called it a “slim but entertaining 80 minutes” that gave some interesting cultural context to the show’s comedy and political satire.

And since NBC apparently loves juxtaposition, it will follow up its exploration of the timeless humor of SNL with an episode hosted by Miley Cyrus. The trailer for Live From New York! is below:
